PUNCTUALITY

I hate (or strongly dislike) it when people are late. This week I arranged to pick up five people in the centre of Rzhyshchiv at 3:30. I rocked up about one minute early, two of them were there waiting, and before I’d said hi to them, the other three turned up. I love it when it works like that! But how often do I have to sit around and wait because someone is late? They were busy, or they were unorganised, or they didn’t plan ahead. What about me, how often do I keep people waiting? I know we often act as if the situation is outside of our control. It’s funny because when we ask God for something we expect Him to show up on time. There is an interesting situation in the book of Daniel when the angel Michael needs to come and help a messenger who is held up for three weeks because he is fighting the Prince of Persia. There are things outside of our control. And we must trust the timing of God in both things we can and cannot see.
But as much as is within our power, I believe that being on time is both right and Godly. Write me if you disagree. Be on time if you agree.

Week two of quarantine has now gone – one week to go. It seems weird to be working and sort of not working, having half of my stuff at home and half of it at school.
Today is the one month deadline for an educational licence. Well today is Saturday so that is no problem. But I expect some sort of correspondence on Monday with the head of Education for Rzhyshchiv. I have drafted a letter to her for this occasion. Please pray for this situation. Pray that in all things God will bring great glory to Himself, and that what I do and my attitude will not get in the way of this.
Please continue to pray for staffing needs and decisions.
Please pray for a student, N, whom I am teaching during quarantine. She is a smart girl with a clever mind and is interested to think about challenging situations. Pray for an opportunity to speak God into her life.

At home group this week we talked about praying for people who aren’t followers of Jesus. What is more important in life than having a right and restored relationship with God? This is what brings glory to God. And yet my prayers are often so focused on things that get in the way of my plans and my schedule. It is God’s will that none should perish but that all should live with Him. I should be praying towards this end.
Please pray for Sergei. He has been staying with us for two weeks and has just one more week before the quarantine is over. He is very quiet. I’m not sure exactly what he thinks about God. Please pray for his soul.
A weekend at home is a must to clean up outside before winter sets in. It seems to be delayed which I don’t mind. We haven’t had any snow yet (that has stuck on the ground). And the temperature is staying above zero which is very manageable.
There are five Peace Corp trainees in Rzhyshchiv currently. I am working with them to put together a Thanksgiving presentation for one of the Technicums. Next week they are coming to my house for a birthday party for one of them. They are doing the cooking, so I’m stoked. Pray that this house will be a haven of rest for them as they are all living in very new situations from where they have come.
