TELL HIM HE’S DREAMING!
I love that line from “The Castle”. Wayne is a mate of mine in Kargalyk, 20 mins from Rzhyshchiv. For a couple of years now he has on and off played cricket with a bunch of guys in Kyiv (I’ve played once). Most of them are from Pakistan, India or Sri Lanka and are in Ukraine as businessmen or students. They don’t like cricket – they love it! But finding a place to play in Kyiv is difficult. The field is sand, the pitch is a rolled out mat, and if a football game is scheduled then it takes priority. Wayne has come up with an idea. Buy a hectare of land out near where we live, sow grass and maintain a field, build a small pavilion, and it could be the home of cricket in Ukraine. Many kids would love to learn a new sport, but already there are great relationships built with guys that are mad about cricket. Maybe Wayne is dreaming – but it’s dreams that set our feet in motion (of course I started thinking of a rugby ground for the off season).
Everything you do; eating, drinking, working, playing, dreaming. May it all be for the glory of God.
UTSIM
Thank you!! Thank you firstly to God. We have completed one academic year with UTSIM. Last night was our end of year celebration and it went really well. Thanks to so many who helped with setting up, serving food, playing music, translating – too many to name but it was a great team effort. The students themselves did really well with skits and poems in English and we had a spelling bee and a fun game of bingo for the parents. Simbo and Asia did a great job working with me on this, thanks for being teachers with UTSIM. There are lots of pictures on the website for you to have a look at. Thank you to all of you who prayed for this evening.
It’s a great feeling to have made it this far and after catching my breath, it’s time to start thinking about where to from here. We want to look at more staff and helping increase the qualifications of staff. We want to look at more students and maybe more locations for teaching. We are purchasing curriculum and writing a program with the view towards an educational licence. I want to see UTSIM become more financially viable. From a people point of view – it has been very worthwhile and it is great to work with those who are our neighbours in this town. Please pray that eternal fruit will be the rewards of this labour.
Also please pray for an English Festival we will be holding on June 9-10 for kids from around town. Three months holiday is a long time for small child and they need something to do. Pray for the organisation, creativity and energy needed to love these kids.
BITS AND PIECES
Last weekend, Max and Ivanka came down to Rzhyshchiv and we had a great time together just hanging out and enjoying life in our town. I spent Saturday morning helping Jon cut and screw down the boards on his deck. Wow what a beautiful place they have there. Sunday “all church” was really good. 3 ¼ hours from the first time was reduced to 2 ¼ hours. It was great to get to know on a more personal level, some young people I have seen around at school. Please pray that the unity and love that Christians show towards each other will speak to those in this town who give very little thought to God in their daily lives.
This weekend Bruce is hosting a paintballing event for guys. Hoping to build relationships with the guys around town and further afield – I’ll let you know how it goes.
