LEARNING TO PRAY AGAIN

I’m trying to learn to pray again. I sort of gave up praying for mundane things. I got to a point where only things like people’s salvation and spiritual growth were worth praying about and other stuff wasn’t because . . . well you could come up with lots of dumb reasons.

I don’t know what it means to pray with faith. I sometimes think that we use the word faith when we mean stupidity. But then what defines stupid? Maybe digging a hole in a roof is stupid – but it was faith that Jesus rewarded.

So yeah . . . journeying on – keep praying with me.

UTSIM

Only two weeks left. It hardly seems real. I’m still writing tests and have to administer them. The end of year program seems to be coming together with lots of student participation planned. Pray that many of the parents will attend and that it will be a great evening of conversation and getting to know more people from our town.

We are planning a two day English festival for kids in June. We are going to invite heaps of kids from the town and are looking for volunteers who speak English from all around. It is also starting to come together thanks to some help from guys in Kargalik. Please pray for these two days.

I must say what a huge job with documents Natasha has done this week. I think I have signed more than 100 pieces of paper for her. She is making another registration with another department so that we can release books from customs that have been sent to us from Pacific Hills Christian School. Please pray that we will receive these books without further hassle.

BITS AND PIECES

Last Saturday I got to do two things I love. I went to a garage sale in the morning and to the rugby in the afternoon. Among some books I picked up, I bought a really comfortable rocking chair. I just need to find some spare time to sit in it now. And the weather was perfect for a rugby test match between Ukraine and Moldova which Ukraine won convincingly 32 nil.

Last Sunday I headed out to Chernihiv – about 1 ½ hours north east of Kyiv. I visited a number of friends at church, out for lunch and then over to Jake’s place to chew the fat and hang out. It was a really encouraging day out for me and even ended with a game of scrabble.

This weekend Angus from QLD and Alya from Kyiv are getting married and I get to wear a fancy suit and stand next to Angus. It’s going to be a small and very nice wedding. They will live in Australia after they are married. Watch this space next week for some photos and a report of how good I (I mean the bride) looked.

In-between all the fun I’m also heading up to the Canadian Embassy to play hockey (cause I’m really good at hockey – eh Tim Watkins – not!). Do you think it would be appropriate to bring out a friendly haka!?!

I am always content with what happens; for I know that what God chooses is better than what I choose.
