Here are some thoughts that have been given to me recently.
My Dad wrote a letter quoting another guy.
“If I have been injured by another, let me think to myself – how much better to be the sufferer than the wrongdoer.”
Mum is laid up with a broken ankle at the moment and she wrote the following in an email:
“You don’t realise how wonderful it is to have a healthy body until you don’t have it!!! And all I have wrong is a broken leg bone. It has made me think a lot about people who have permanent disabilities, especially those who live alone like elderly widows.”
I have been watching some seminars about abiding in Christ by Mike Wells.
“The secret is to walk with an empty bag.”
Keith Green’s song,
“There is a redeemer – Jesus God’s own son”
And again from Dad’s letter (advice to a new young missionary)
“Keep low, look up, and press forward.” (also good advice for any aspiring All Black forward)
JUMPED OR PUSHED
I’m still not sure if I jumped or if I was pushed, but on Saturday I got into an old airplane, climbed to 1000 metres and they opened the door and I jumped out. It was an amazing feeling – and an even better feeling when a few seconds later my parachute was open I realized everything was just fine and dandy and wow praise God this is a great view. And when it costs just Aus$40 I reckon I will go again sometime. There were 7 of us who went, 3 guys and 4 girls.
VISITORS
Tomorrow Ruth and Jon arrive in Ukraine for at least a year. They will have jobs in Kyiv starting in September but will stay with me until then. I woke up this morning to find that there had been a huge storm during the night and the roof leaked and their bed and the carpet was all wet. I have been attempting to fix the roof today as well as dry out bedding.
I also have two ladies coming to stay for a week. They are going to undertake the process of registering my business. They will take notarial power of attorney from me so they can do it all themselves (I think that’s how it works). It will be great to have this process finished. I must confess my faith is small and I’m not sure if it will happen or not. Their names are Sveta and Alya. Sveta is a believer and Alya is interested, so you can pray for them please.
CONFERENCE
This coming weekend I am taking a van load of young people to a singles conference in Prilukiy. There was a group of young people from this town at camp so it will be good to see them again. Please pray that this will be a profitable and challenging time as young people are challenged to use their singleness to glorify God.
TIME MANAGEMENT
I have been thinking about what is important and what is not. Today I asked a guy if he had a successful morning (I knew he was trying to obtain some information). We then discussed what makes a day successful or not. So often I have a list of things to do for the day – and I rate the success of the day on how well I did with my list. I should rate the success of my day by whether or not I lived it with God. Was I living in my strength or did I abandon myself so Christ could work through me?
Maybe the best use of my time is not just whether or not I was busy.
